Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply and deliver trial frames to Murchison District Hospital, ensuring the provision of quality optometric equipment that meets specified standards and requirements. The procurement aims to enhance the hospital's optometry services by acquiring reliable, compliant, and fully supported trial frames suitable for both adult and paediatric use.

Scope

The scope of the tender includes:

• Supply and delivery of two trial frames (adult and paediatric), cross cylinders, magnification loupes, LED vision charts, and related accessories.
• Provision of training, technical support, and maintenance services for the supplied equipment.
• Ensuring all equipment complies with technical specifications, safety standards, and departmental requirements.
• Delivery to the specified hospital site within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with the contractual obligations.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the trial frames and associated equipment include:

• Trial frames must be fully adjustable, of adequate quality, suitable for adult and paediatric use.
• Lens sets should be premium quality, with at least 250 lenses, large apertures, metal rims, housed in a sturdy wood case.
• Cross cylinders must be large aperture, scratch resistant, with diopters of 0.25, 0.50, 1.00, and 2.00.
• Magnification loupes must be medical quality, adjustable, with built-in LED illumination, available in 3x and 5.5x magnifications.
• LED vision charts should be remote-controlled, adjustable for different distances, and capable of testing acuity, color vision, stereopsis, and other optometric functions.
• Equipment must meet relevant safety standards (IEC 60601-1, 60601-1-2), be CE certified, and operate on 220V, 50Hz supply with hospital-grade mains cables.
• All manuals, calibration software, and spare parts must be supplied for maintenance and support.
• Guarantee/warranty period of at least 24 months, with provisions for maintenance, repairs, and optional accessories.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven capacity to supply and support optometric equipment, evidenced by previous supply records and references.
• Technical expertise in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of trial frames and associated optometric devices.
• Availability of qualified in-house technicians trained by original equipment manufacturers, with proof of training and certification.
• Established service and repair facilities within KwaZulu-Natal, capable of providing timely technical support and repairs.
• Ability to provide comprehensive training to hospital staff on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory standards as specified in the tender documentation.
