Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to construct a guard house at Northern Works, ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental, and legislative standards. The project aims to deliver a brick-and-mortar guard house of 4x4 m2, meeting specified building plans and specifications, while adhering to Johannesburg Water’s SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) requirements.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply of all building materials required for the construction of the guard house.
• Construction of the guard house as per approved building plans and specifications.
• Submission of safety documentation, including safety files, risk assessments, safe working procedures, and SHE plans.
• Compliance with safety briefing, site induction, and safety requirements during construction.

The project is located at Northern Wastewater Treatment Works, Diepsloot, with an estimated duration to be confirmed.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Construction of a 4x4 m2 brick and mortar guard house following approved plans.
• Provision of all necessary building materials and safety documentation.
• Implementation of SHE procedures such as risk assessments, method statements, and safety files.
• Adherence to minimum SHE safety standards, including site safety briefing, PPE, signage, and incident reporting.
• Compliance with electrical, welding, and other construction safety standards.
• Proper manual handling, equipment use, and hazard management as per detailed SHE specifications.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires contractors to possess:

• Registration with the CIDB (Construction Industry Development Board) with a registration class of 1GB or above.
• Competent personnel with relevant SHE certifications, including safety officers and construction supervisors.
• Experience in constructing similar brick-and-mortar structures within safety and legislative standards.
• Ability to prepare and submit comprehensive SHE documentation, risk assessments, and safety files.
• Skills in site safety management, hazard identification, and emergency response planning.
• Proper manual handling and equipment operation skills, including safe use of ladders, scaffolding, and electrical tools.
