Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply and install air conditioning units at George Airport to enhance cooling capacity and operational efficiency. The project aims to replace outdated or inefficient units, expand cooling in key operational areas such as check-in and departure zones, and convert spaces like storerooms and lobbies into functional offices. Additionally, the project seeks to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable climate control solutions that meet specified technical standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply and installation of inverter floor-standing air conditioning units (96,000 BTU) in designated areas.
• Installation of rooftop package units (60,000 BTU) for concourse and arrival hall cooling.
• Replacement of obsolete or damaged units in administration areas and electrical substations.
• Provision of additional units to convert spaces such as storerooms and lobbies into offices.
• Pre-installation, mechanical, electrical, piping, and commissioning activities.
• Provision of necessary permits, safety measures, and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
• Refurbishment of plant rooms and infrastructure to support new installations.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the units and installation include:

• Floor-standing inverter units with a capacity of 96,000 BTU, refrigerant type R410A, power supply 3-phase 380V, 50Hz.
• Rooftop units with a minimum capacity of 60,000 BTU, suitable for outdoor installation with appropriate mounting and vibration isolation.
• Compliance with national standards such as SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10400 Part O.
• Installation of insulated copper refrigerant pipes, PVC condensate pipes, and electrical wiring with proper sealing and testing.
• Provision of control systems, isolators, circuit breakers, and safety features as specified.
• Commissioning, testing, and handover procedures including training on operation and maintenance.
• Adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations, including occupational health and safety standards.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Qualified technical personnel with experience in HVAC system installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Competence in electrical wiring, piping, and mechanical installation adhering to national standards.
• Familiarity with safety protocols, risk assessments, and environmental management in airport environments.
• Ability to coordinate with airport authorities and comply with security and operational procedures.
• Provision of trained personnel for safety supervision, incident reporting, and emergency response.
• Capability to prepare and submit detailed work programs, safety plans, and quality assurance documentation.
