Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to solicit quotations for the renovation and replacement of doors at the NICD Sandringham Campus. The project aims to upgrade existing door systems, including frames, glass panels, hardware, and associated access control devices, ensuring improved security, functionality, and compliance with safety standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removal of existing doors and frames at specified locations (e.g., Block H Main entrance, North entrance, Door 21, Door 20, Alternative Exit).
• Supply and installation of new aluminium door frames and aluminium doors with laminated safety glass, including hardware such as locks, cylinders, door closers, and weather-stripping.
• Reinstatement and testing of access control devices.
• Refurbishment of existing steel doors where specified.
• Installation of weatherproofing, sealing cavities, and ensuring proper alignment and clearance.
• Provision for contingency funds and allowances for unforeseen works.
• Coordination with hospital operations, including after-hours work and minimal disruption to ongoing activities.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Use of aluminium frames and laminated safety glass (minimum 6.5mm thick).
• Doors to be hung on brass or aluminium hinges with specified number based on door height.
• Exterior doors fitted with weather strips and door handles.
• All materials to be ISO 9001 accredited and compliant with SABS standards.
• Doors to have a maximum clearance gap of 2mm at sides and head, with appropriate floor clearance.
• Installation of hardware including locks, cylinders, door closers, weather-stripping, and handles.
• Painting or varnishing of surfaces as specified, with proper surface preparation.
• Electrical and plumbing works to be carried out by registered professionals, with all installations compliant with relevant standards.
• Work to be phased to minimize operational disruption, including after-hours and weekend work where necessary.
• Guarantee and maintenance period of 12 months, with provisions for defect rectification and penalties for delays.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• CIDB registration in at least grade 1SG or higher, indicating capacity for high-traffic, heavy-duty applications.
• Experience in installing aluminium doors and frames, preferably in institutional or hospital settings.
• Proven ability to manage projects involving access control systems, glazing, and door hardware.
• Qualified and registered electrical and plumbing professionals for respective works.
• Capability to work in operational environments with minimal disruption, including after-hours work and adherence to safety standards.
• Provision of references and completion certificates for similar projects undertaken within the last five years, with a minimum project value of R200,000.
• Ability to provide comprehensive safety files, project programmes, and quality assurance documentation.
