Tender Summary

Objectives

To procure and install critical electrical monitoring and backup power equipment at two PRASA distribution substations, ensuring uninterrupted signal cabin operations and enhanced transformer safety through real-time oil level monitoring.

Scope of Work

• Langlaagte Signal Cabin Distribution Substation: Supply, deliver, mount, wire, test, and commission a battery charger cabinet.
• Germiston Rhino Distribution Substation: Supply, deliver, mount, calibrate, integrate, and commission a transformer magnetic oil gauge.
• Includes all necessary accessories, cabling, protective enclosures, testing, commissioning, operator training, and formal site handover in accordance with PRASA specifications.

Technical Requirements

• Equipment must comply with PRASA engineering standards, South African National Standards (SANS), and railway safety regulations.
• All materials must be rated for industrial substation environments, including appropriate IP ratings, voltage compatibility, and corrosion resistance.
• Contractor must hold a minimum CIDB contractor grading of 1EP or higher.
• Installation must include full electrical isolation, earthing, load testing, functional verification, and comprehensive documentation of commissioning results.
• Work must adhere to strict occupational health and safety protocols, including permit-to-work systems and railway corridor access restrictions.

Skills Requirements

• Project Manager with proven experience in railway infrastructure and substation upgrades.
• Certified Electrical Engineers and Technicians competent in medium-voltage DC/AC systems, cabinet assembly, and substation integration.
• Qualified commissioning agents capable of performing insulation resistance, continuity, and functional performance tests.
• Site supervisors trained in railway safety, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures.
• All personnel must hold valid competency certificates and undergo PRASA site induction prior to commencement.
