Objectives

The primary objective is to appoint a qualified contractor to conduct the annual verification of protection relays. This ensures the operational integrity, safety, and reliability of electrical protection systems within the employer's water infrastructure, mitigating risks associated with electrical faults.

Scope

  • Service Description: Annual Protection Relays Verification.
  • Key Activities: Testing, calibration, and verification of protection relay devices to confirm they operate correctly under fault conditions and meet technical standards.
  • Duration/Frequency: The service is required on an annual cycle.

Technical Requirements

  • CIDB Contractor Grading: Tenderers must possess a minimum CIDB contractor grading of 2EB or higher.

Skills Requirements

Specific personnel qualifications are not itemized in the notice; however, the mandatory CIDB grading of 2EB serves as the primary indicator of required skills. The successful tenderer must demonstrate the technical capacity and skilled workforce mandated by this classification, ensuring competence in electrical engineering and protection relay verification.

Explanation of Technical Terms

CIDB Contractor Grading
A classification system administered by the Construction Industry Development Board in South Africa. It assesses a contractor's financial stability, turnover, and experience to determine their capability to execute projects of specific sizes and complexities.
2EB Grading Code
This alphanumeric code defines the minimum contractor grade required:
  • 2: Refers to Category 2, typically associated with Electrical Engineering works.
  • E: Indicates the specific sub-category or discipline within the electrical engineering sector.
  • B: Represents the rating band, denoting the contractor's size and capacity relative to the category.
A 2EB grading requires contractors to have proven experience and resources suitable for medium-scale electrical engineering projects with a defined level of technical proficiency.

Joint Ventures, Consortia and Subcontracting:

Most large tenders are composed of tasks in a number of different fields, and it is not always possible for a single company to cater for all of them, and therefore Joint Ventures and Consortia are formed to then submit a tender together.

Government tenders are also requiring the subcontracting of a percentage of the tender work, and the trouble is then finding Subcontractors to comply with the tender requirements

To assist companies with finding tender partners and subcontractors, you can now submit your contact details and company information on this page, so other interested parties can contact you for purposes of forming Joint Ventures and subcontracting

You will need to supply your details on every tender you are interested in tendering for. For this you need an active Business Listing - Register and Login at My Account to create a Business Listing

NOTE: This is not a tender application form, it is meant to facilitate the meeting of partners to form a Joint Venture or Subcontractor relationship for this tender only
