Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider responsible for supplying and delivering ear tags and agricultural equipment, including ear tag readers and applicators, to support livestock identification and management initiatives within Kyd KZN. The procurement aims to enhance livestock traceability, strengthen agricultural practices, ensure compliance with standards, and support youth-led farming projects over a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Provision of durable electronic identification (EID) ear tags in various colours with security features and indelible markings.
• Supply of ear tag applicators and radio frequency identification (RFID) devices compliant with ISO standards.
• Delivery of equipment across multiple districts within KZN, segmented into clusters.
• Installation, commissioning, and training on the use of supplied equipment.
• Provision of ongoing support, maintenance, and replacement of defective items during the contract period.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Ear Tags:
  • High retention visual tags (minimum 95% in the first year).
  • Two-piece design with security embossing (ZA or ZAF) and laser marking for readability at a minimum of 3 meters.
  • Tamper-proof, non-reusable, compliant with ICAR specifications.
  • Tags must be supplied in boxes or trays, with matching data printed indelibly on both parts.
• Ear Tag Readers & Applicators:
  • RFID readers capable of ISO11784/11785 standards, compatible with FDX-B and HDX tags.
  • Large internal memory (minimum 10,000 animal records) with timestamp and visual ID.
  • Data transmission via USB, Bluetooth, with optional Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities.
  • Device must operate with an integrated software system, with user-friendly interface and calibration validation.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in supplying livestock identification equipment and related agricultural tools.
• Technical capacity to install, calibrate, and support electronic identification devices.
• Ability to provide training, technical support, and maintenance services.
• Compliance with ISO standards and certification requirements (e.g., ISO9001, ICAR certification).
• Financial stability and resources to sustain supply and support over the contract duration.
