Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to design and supervise the construction of a permanent rail over river bridge on the Veertienstrome – Ramathlabama TFR rail-line at km 105,738. The project aims to reinstate the damaged river bridge with a structure that meets all applicable standards, ensuring the line's optimal functioning and maintaining rail connectivity between Veertienstrome and Vryburg in the North-West region.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Design and construction supervision of a permanent river bridge on the specified railway line.
• Conduct geotechnical investigations for pier and abutment foundations.
• Develop concrete mix designs and perform testing in accordance with standards.
• Adhere to relevant Transnet norms, standards, and regulations listed in the scope document.
• Coordinate installation at km 105 on the Veertienstrome – Vryburg line, near de beers station, with specific geographic coordinates provided.

Technical Requirements

• Design of a bridge that complies with South African railway safety regulations and standards.
• Geotechnical investigations for foundation design.
• Concrete and steel reinforcement design and testing.
• Adherence to standards such as SANS 1200H, SANS 10100, SANS 10162, and relevant railway safety regulations.
• Preparation of detailed design documentation, specifications, and handover documentation.
• Implementation of quality management policies aligned with ISO 9001:2015.
• Compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, including EIA assessments.

Skills Requirements

Qualified personnel must possess the following skills and qualifications:

• Lead Design Engineer: Must be registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Technologist (Pr.Tech) with relevant design experience (2-10+ years). Demonstrated experience in bridge design, geotechnical investigations, and project management.
• Technical Team: Engineers and technicians with expertise in structural design, geotechnical engineering, concrete testing, and steel reinforcement, all registered or accredited as required.
• Project Management: Personnel experienced in managing large infrastructure projects, adhering to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Environmental and Safety Specialists: Knowledgeable in environmental impact assessments (EIA) and safety regulations relevant to construction and infrastructure projects.

All personnel involved must demonstrate competence, relevant certifications, and experience in railway bridge projects, geotechnical investigations, and construction supervision to ensure project success and compliance with standards.
