Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out emergency rehabilitation works on the landslip opposite Kunjani Mall along Concordia Road. The aim is to stabilize the failed embankment, restore road safety, improve mobility, and protect existing civil services. Specific goals include constructing retaining walls, installing reinforcement, reinstating pavement and kerbing, and ensuring the stability of the slope and surrounding infrastructure.

Scope

The scope encompasses all activities necessary for the stabilization and rehabilitation of the landslip site, including:

• Securing and stabilizing the embankment and slope.
• Earthworks involving excavation, importation, and compaction of engineered fill.
• Construction of concrete retaining block (CRB) walls with geogrid reinforcement.
• Reinstatement of sidewalks, paving, kerbing, stormwater channels, and water mains.
• Protection of existing services and utilities during construction.
• Temporary works such as shoring, fencing, and traffic management.
• Site clearance, excavation, and disposal of surplus material.

Technical Requirements

The technical scope includes:

• Design and construction of engineered fill and retaining structures according to SANS 1200 standards.
• Installation of horizontal geogrid reinforcement within backfill layers.
• Construction of precast concrete block retaining walls with integrated reinforcement.
• Reinstatement of stormwater drainage, water mains, and pavement layers.
• Compliance with geotechnical, structural, and safety standards specified in the tender documents.
• Use of approved materials, including G5 quality fill, concrete blocks, geogrids, and water pipes.
• Implementation of environmental and safety measures, including erosion control and traffic management.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

• Proven experience in geotechnical and slope stabilization projects, particularly landslip repairs.
• Design and construction expertise in earthworks, retaining walls, and reinforced soil structures.
• Competence in handling geotechnical investigations, interpretation, and application of findings.
• Ability to manage complex civil construction activities, including earthworks, drainage, and pavement reinstatement.
• Qualified personnel including a Contracts Manager, Construction Manager, Foreman, and Health & Safety Officer, with relevant experience and certifications.
• Knowledge of applicable standards (SANS 1200 series, geotechnical and structural codes).
• Capacity to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including utility providers and environmental authorities.
• Proficiency in safety management, environmental protection, and traffic control during construction.
