The primary objective of this tender is to secure a qualified contractor to supply, deliver, and replace the battery banks for the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system located in the VES room. This ensures continuous, reliable power protection for critical departmental equipment and prevents operational disruptions during electrical outages.
The successful tenderer will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of the UPS battery replacement project. This includes:
CIDB Grading 1EB: A South African Construction Industry Development Board classification system. Grade 1 indicates eligibility for lower-value contracts, 'E' denotes electrical specialization, and 'B' specifies the approved financial threshold bracket for the contractor's category.
Trade Tested (Electrical): A nationally recognized certification confirming that an individual has completed rigorous practical and theoretical training in electrical trades, legally authorizing them to perform certified electrical installations, maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
VES Room: Typically stands for Vital Equipment Space or Video/Electrical Services room. This is a dedicated facility housing mission-critical IT, communications, or power infrastructure that requires uninterrupted operation and controlled environmental conditions.
UPS System Batteries: Backup energy storage units (commonly Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid or Lithium-ion) that instantly supply emergency power during grid failures. Their replacement requires specialized handling due to chemical hazards, precise electrical matching, and strict safety protocols to prevent short circuits, thermal events, or system incompatibility.
