Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the design, manufacture, supply, delivery, and installation of indoor soft play equipment and astro turf suitable for children aged 1–4 years at uShaka Kids World. The equipment must be safe, durable, hygienic, and compliant with relevant safety standards, supporting early childhood development activities such as crawling, climbing, sliding, sensory, and interactive play.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Design, manufacture, and supply of indoor soft play equipment tailored for toddlers, including items like soft padding, tents, blocks, rollers, rockers, wheels, wedges, arches, fun mirrors, scooters, train sets, play cushions, and hop balls.
• Supply and installation of astro turf (artificial grass) for indoor and outdoor spaces, ensuring a safe, soft surface with a natural aesthetic.
• Materials used must be non-toxic, flame-retardant, child-safe, easy to clean, and compliant with South African and/or international safety standards.
• The equipment must support gross motor development and be free from high-risk elements such as excessive heights or entrapment hazards.

The technical specifications for the soft play equipment and astro turf are as follows:

Soft Play Equipment

• Materials: Non-toxic, flame-retardant, child-safe, suitable for indoor use, and easy to clean.
• Warranty: 2 years on soft play padding and surfacing.
• Design: Age-appropriate, safe, durable, hygienic, with sensory and interactive elements supporting early learning.
• Specific items include: PVC tents, hard blocks, rollers, rockers, wheels, wedges, arches, fun mirrors, scooters, train sets, play cushions, hop balls, and themed printed heads and bodies.

Astro Turf

• Pile Height: 12 mm (± 1 mm)
• Fibre Type: Polyethylene
• Application: Indoor and outdoor playgrounds, landscaping, and multi-functional surfaces
• Infill: 10 kg/m²
• Roll Width: 2m or 4m
• UV Warranty: 6 years
• Guarantee: 5 years

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Registered status on the Central Supplier Database and eThekwini Supplier Portal.
• Experience in designing and manufacturing child-safe indoor play equipment and astro turf installation.
• Compliance with South African National Standards (SANS 51176 and 51177) for playground safety.
• Ability to provide technical documentation, third-party test reports, and proof of compliance with safety standards.
• Capacity to deliver and install equipment within the specified timeline, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
• Provision of a warranty period of at least 2 years for soft play equipment and surfacing, and 5-6 years for astro turf.
