Objectives

To procure specialized conservation services for the professional cleaning, treatment, and protective maintenance of designated stone artworks and architectural elements. The primary goal is to preserve historical integrity, prevent environmental degradation, and ensure compliance with international museum conservation standards.

Scope

The contract encompasses the specialized cleaning and treatment of four distinct heritage assets:

• Sandstone Relief Panels: Two exterior-mounted panels measuring 3065mm (W) × 2150mm (H) × 100mm (D).
• Protective Cover Installation: Supply and installation of waterproof covers over both sandstone relief panels, executed strictly per the directives of the DPWI Heritage Architect to prevent water ingress.
• Marble Lion Sculptures & Plinths: Two marble lion sculptures mounted on rectangular plinths clad in decorative sandstone panels featuring multi-leveled surfaces. Dimensions: Plinths 1350mm (L) × 620mm (W) × 600mm (H); Sculptures 1350mm (L) × 620mm (W) × 605mm (H).
• Entrance Column Plinths: Two squared sandstone column plinths with multi-leveled surfaces, measuring 480mm (W) × 480mm (D) × 1000mm (H).

Technical Requirements

• Strict adherence to cleaning and treatment methodologies aligned with ICOM conservation guidelines.
• Execution on complex, multi-leveled geometries requiring non-destructive techniques and specialized access equipment.
• Installation of weatherproof protective systems tailored to prevent moisture penetration and structural damage.
• Mandatory contractor registration on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
• Minimum CIDB contractor grading of 1GB, with preference awarded to bidders holding this grade or higher.
• Compliance with all sealing, addressing, delivery, and assessment protocols outlined in the official tender documentation.

• Proven experience interpreting and implementing technical directives from qualified Heritage Architects.

• CSD Registration: The Central Supplier Database, a mandatory national procurement platform used by all South African government entities to verify supplier legitimacy and compliance before awarding contracts.
• DPWI Heritage Architect: A specialist conservation architect appointed by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to ensure all interventions comply with national heritage legislation and preservation protocols.
• Water Ingress Prevention: The technical process of sealing and covering porous stone surfaces to block moisture penetration, which can cause freeze-thaw damage, salt crystallization, and biological growth.
