Objectives

The primary objective of the tender is to procure services for pest control and fumigation at St Andrews Hospital and associated clinics under the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The aim is to ensure effective eradication and control of pests such as rats, mice, cockroaches, ants, birds, lice, moth larvae, fish moths, and other vermin, maintaining occupational health and safety standards and complying with relevant legislation.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of pest control and fumigation services at St Andrews Hospital, staff residences, and various clinics within the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
• Re-infestation management with immediate re-services at no extra cost.
• Services to cover multiple clinics and hospital wards, with distances ranging from 0 to 35 km from the hospital.
• Services to be performed on a scheduled basis, including one-off treatments and ongoing maintenance.
• Adherence to specified procedures, safety standards, and use of approved chemicals and equipment.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Handling and application of pesticides and insecticides in accordance with SABS codes of practice and Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.
• Use of chemicals that comply with the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Remedies Act (Act 36 of 1947).
• Provision of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals used.
• Application of gel bait, spray treatments, rodent baiting, and fogging as per specified methods.
• Opening and treatment of sewerage and storm water manholes.
• Use of own tools and equipment for opening sewerage and storm water manholes.
• Monthly meetings for service monitoring and record keeping.
• Compliance with all statutory and safety standards.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• Competence and training in handling insecticides, pesticides, and pest control equipment.
• Ability to prepare and submit all required documentation, including certification, MSDS, and compliance certificates.
• Experience in executing pest control services in healthcare environments.
• Capacity to respond promptly to re-infestation requests and emergencies.
• Provision of qualified personnel with relevant certifications, such as Technician’s Certificates issued by the Department of Agriculture.
• Ability to adhere to scheduled service times and coordinate with hospital staff.
• Capability to maintain safety standards and environmental compliance throughout service delivery.
