Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a service for pest control and fumigation at St Andrews Hospital and associated clinics under the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The service aims to eradicate and control pests and vermin such as rats, mice, cockroaches, bird lice, ants, moth larvae, fish moths, and other insects, ensuring a pest-free environment to support health and safety standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of pest control and fumigation services at St Andrews Hospital, staff residences, and various clinics within the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
• Re-infestation management, requiring immediate re-services at no extra cost if pests reappear between scheduled treatments.
• Services covering multiple clinics and hospital wards, with specified distances and locations as per the detailed distance tables.
• Adherence to specified procedures, including prior arrangement of service dates, notification, and signing in/out at the designated offices.
• Use of approved chemicals and methods in compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
• Regular monitoring, meetings, and documentation to ensure service quality and compliance.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Provision of trained and competent personnel to handle insecticides and pesticides.
• Use of chemicals that comply with the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Remedies Act (Act 36 of 1947) and SABS codes of practice.
• Issuance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used.
• Internal spraying and gel treatment of built-in cupboards, storage rooms, and other strategic areas.
• Spray treatment of sewerage and storm water manholes, water pipes, ducts, and external walls at each service.
• Use of low-odour, environmentally safe chemicals that do not affect staff or visitors.
• Proper tools and equipment for opening sewerage and storm water manholes.
• Regular meetings and documentation of service activities and issues.
• Compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• Proven experience in pest control and fumigation services within healthcare or similar environments.
• Knowledge of and compliance with South African legislation related to pesticides, occupational health and safety, and environmental standards.
• Qualified personnel with relevant certifications, including Technician’s Certificates issued by the Department of Agriculture.
• Ability to prepare and provide Safety Data Sheets and other compliance documentation.
• Capability to respond promptly to re-infestation and emergency pest control needs.
• Effective communication skills for reporting, meetings, and documentation.
• Capacity to supply and operate necessary tools and equipment for opening sewerage and storm water manholes.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver services within the specified timeframes and to the required standards.
