Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a reputable and qualified service provider to undertake surface and ground water quality monitoring at various Pikitup landfill sites over a period of twelve (12) months. The service provider will be responsible for sampling, analyzing, reporting on water quality results, and submitting bi-annual reports to ensure compliance and environmental monitoring at both operational and closed landfills.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Performing water quality monitoring at six (6) landfill sites, with sampling scheduled at least twice within 12 months.
• Sampling runoff water, leachate, groundwater boreholes, culverts, streams, and evaporation ponds/dams adjacent to landfills.
• Determining groundwater levels and conducting water monitoring during sampling periods.
• Compiling bi-annual monitoring reports based on analysis results.
• Monthly topographical surveys to assess landfill airspace depletion and rehabilitation needs, including setting out disposal cells and monitoring wet weather cells.
• Providing detailed landfill volumetric surveys by professionally competent surveyors.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Sampling all runoff water, leachate, groundwater boreholes, culverts, streams, and evaporation ponds/dams at each landfill site.
• Measuring groundwater levels and conducting water quality analysis at each borehole and surface water point.
• Producing bi-annual reports on water quality monitoring results.
• Monthly setting out of disposal cells, providing final levels, slopes, terrain, and wet weather cell monitoring at each landfill.
• Engaging professionally registered volumetric surveyors for topographical surveys.
• Ensuring all sampling and survey activities meet industry standards and are documented comprehensively.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Relevant experience in water quality monitoring, sampling, analysis, and reporting, especially in landfill or wastewater management contexts.
• Completion of Schedule A with supporting appointment letters from previous clients for similar projects.
• At least five (5) years of experience in water quality management projects.
• Proven track record with a minimum of five (5) completed projects of similar nature.
• Registered professional project leader/manager with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) or the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), supported by valid registration certificates.
• Qualified project leader/manager with relevant degrees or postgraduate qualifications in environmental sciences, chemistry, civil or chemical engineering.
• Capability to conduct high-accuracy volumetric topographical surveys through experienced surveyors.
• Ability to compile detailed reports, including slope and density ratio analyses, and to present findings clearly and professionally.
