Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure blunt needles, 18g – 38mm with filter, that are pyrogen-free, non-toxic, sterile, and individually packed, to meet the needs of Grey’s Hospital under the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The procurement aims to ensure the supply of quality medical needles suitable for drug drawing, mixture, and transfer procedures, adhering to specified standards and specifications.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply of 50 boxes of blunt needles (100 units per box), complying with detailed specifications including size, sterilization, packaging, and quality standards. The procurement is a once-off contract, with the goods delivered to Grey’s Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, within the stipulated delivery period. The tender covers all aspects from technical compliance to administrative and legal requirements, including sample submission and preference points allocation.

Technical Requirements

• Needle size: 18G, 38mm length, blunt tip with filter
• Material: Hollow stainless steel with ISO colour-coded plastic hub compatible with luer-lock and luer-slip syringes
• Sterility: Single-use, sterile, individually packed in peel pouches
• Sterilization: In accordance with SANS 1124-1:2011, ISO 23908 or equivalent
• Packaging: 100 units per box
• Must be pyrogen-free and toxin-free
• Packaging must include trade name, size, sterilization method, manufacturing site, CE number, lot number, expiry date
• Compliance with relevant standards and specifications as attached in the annexure

Skills Requirements

• Understanding of medical device specifications and standards (ISO, SANS)
• Ability to prepare and submit compliant technical documentation and samples
• Knowledge of procurement procedures, including completion of official forms and preference points documentation
• Capability to meet administrative, legal, and contractual obligations as per the tender requirements
• Effective communication skills for inquiries and clarifications with the Department of Health
