Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to obtain a structural analysis of the Gamagara River Bridge near Sishen Railway Station, including investigations, strengthening designs, construction supervision, and related services, for a period of four months.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Geotechnical investigations to assess bearing capacity and foundation conditions.
• Analysis of the existing bridge to evaluate current load capacities.
• Design of necessary strengthening or repair works based on analysis outcomes.
• Preparation of construction drawings and bills of quantities.
• Construction supervision during the implementation phase, including normal and after-hours supervision, travel, and testing.
• Provision of as-built drawings, investigation reports, design reports, certificates, and handover documentation.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Completion of geotechnical investigations to verify foundation conditions.
• Structural analysis of the existing bridge for axle loads of 20 and 26 tons.
• Design of bridge strengthening solutions based on analysis results.
• Preparation of detailed construction drawings and bills of quantities.
• Supervision of construction activities, including normal hours, after-hours, travel, and testing.
• Delivery of comprehensive reports, as-built drawings, and certification documentation.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender specifies that the successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Extensive experience in conducting structural analysis and strengthening of river bridges and culverts, with award letters for relevant projects.
• Proven experience in railway and road bridge analysis, repair, and strengthening projects, with a minimum of 6 projects analyzed and designed, each at least 15 meters in length and 5 meters in span.
• Qualified personnel, including a lead designer with at least 8 years of relevant experience, registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), and possessing a valid civil engineering qualification (NQF 7).
• Key personnel must have at least 10 years’ experience in bridge analysis and repair design, with appropriate professional registration.
• Capability to manage the project effectively, including technical, administrative, and safety aspects.
