Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure ecological services for the management and assessment of two nature reserves, namely Johannesburg Botanical Gardens (JBG) and Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve (KNR). The scope includes conducting desktop studies, field assessments, stakeholder engagement, and drafting a comprehensive management plan aligned with best practices in conservation. Additionally, the project aims to identify potential commercial activities, assess cultural, social, heritage, and historical values, and develop interventions and opportunities for sustainable management.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Desktop review of existing information on JBG and KNR.
• Field assessments and data collection on cultural, heritage, and social aspects.
• Stakeholder facilitation and engagement.
• Preparation of a detailed methodology and findings report.
• Development of an integrated activity and management plan for the reserves.
• Identification of commercial activities and assessment of site values.
• Analysis of challenges, interventions, and opportunities within the reserves.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Completion of the Bill of Quantities (BOQ), pricing, and specifications.
• Mandatory site briefing scheduled for 11 December 2025.
• Provision of a comprehensive methodology for data collection.
• Submission of relevant compliance documents such as municipal statements, COIDA certificates, and JV agreements if applicable.
• Alignment with national and international conservation management practices.
• Identification of cultural, heritage, and social values of the sites.
• Preparation of a management plan draft with clear outcomes and recommendations.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires the following skills and expertise:

• Heritage Specialist: Experience in cultural, heritage, and social assessments, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.
• Social Specialist: Skills in stakeholder facilitation and social impact assessment.
• Environmental Planner: Proficiency in developing integrated activity and management plans, and aligning conservation strategies with best practices.
• General: Ability to conduct desktop studies, field assessments, stakeholder engagement, and prepare comprehensive reports and management plans.
