Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a major service for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of split and portable air conditioning units at Old Boys Model School under the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The service aims to ensure the proper functioning, efficiency, and longevity of the air conditioning systems, thereby providing a comfortable environment for staff and clients.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of split and portable air conditioning units.
• Inspection and cleaning of coils, filters, drainage systems, and internal components.
• Replacement of faulty parts with genuine OEM components.
• Compliance with all relevant standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
• Site visits and inspections as required, including a compulsory site meeting.
• Provision of guarantee and warranty for serviced units.
• Preparation of detailed service reports for each unit serviced.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All work must adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85/1993 and relevant SABS standards, including SANS 1125, 1238, 10142, 10147, 10173, 10400, 14644, and others listed in the specifications.
• Only genuine OEM parts shall be used for replacements.
• Electrical works require valid Electrical Certificates of Compliance.
• All materials must be SABS approved or equivalent B.S. or DIN standards.
• Servicing includes internal components such as coils, filters, drainage, electrical and electronic parts, fan blades, and blower wheels.
• Work must be completed within a maximum of five (5) days from site handover.
• Contractors must visit the site beforehand to assess the work required and ensure proper planning.

Skills Requirements

The tender mandates that:

• Service personnel must be qualified refrigeration technicians, with proof of trade testing and registration with the South African Qualification and Certification Committee (SAQCC) Gas, minimum Category A.
• Personnel must hold valid CIDB registration with a minimum grading of 1 ME (Mechanical Engineering).
• Personnel must have proven experience in servicing air conditioning systems, supported by relevant work orders or completion certificates.
• All personnel involved must be competent and capable of executing the scope of work to the required standards.
