Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for minor and major maintenance of cold rooms and freezer rooms at Newcastle Hospital, including the main kitchen, mortuary, and pharmacy. The aim is to ensure the proper functioning, safety, and compliance of refrigeration systems to support patient care and hospital operations.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Provision of minor and major servicing of cold rooms and freezer rooms across various hospital departments.
• Technical assessment, leak testing, re-gassing, and inspection of refrigeration systems.
• Performing repairs, re-gassing, and ensuring system efficiency.
• Completion of detailed inspection reports and service documentation.
• Work to be performed in the main kitchen, mortuary, and pharmacy refrigeration units.
• Work must be completed within specified timeframes, with adherence to safety and quality standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical scope includes:

• Comprehensive assessment of control, gas, compressor systems, and doors for all refrigerated units.
• Leak detection, oil and refrigerant level checks, and system top-up if necessary.
• Cleaning of condensers and testing of compressor efficiency.
• Re-gassing of systems where applicable.
• Inspection and testing of all operational controls, door seals, and safety mechanisms.
• Ensuring all equipment meets health, safety, and quality standards, including SABS and SANS compliance.
• Preparation of detailed reports and documentation post-service.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must possess:

• CIDB Grade 1ME certification, indicating competency in mechanical engineering services.
• Technical expertise in refrigeration systems, leak detection, and system re-gassing.
• Experience in hospital or similar healthcare facility maintenance.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards applicable to refrigeration and maintenance work.
• Ability to prepare detailed inspection and service reports.
• Qualified personnel familiar with occupational health and safety protocols, PPE usage, and safe handling of refrigerants.
