The primary objective is to procure a single commercial-grade planetary mixer for use in the food service operations at Northdale Hospital. The acquisition aims to ensure efficient, hygienic, and uniform mixing of ingredients, particularly for high-volume culinary tasks such as preparing mashed potatoes and other patient meal components within the hospital kitchen.
The scope encompasses a one-off supply and delivery of one (1) unit of a 10-litre planetary mixer to Northdale Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. The successful bidder is responsible for all transportation, handling, and delivery costs to the designated facility. The contract includes provision of standard mixing attachments, manufacturer warranty, compliance with national quality standards, and adherence to the General and Special Conditions of Contract governing public sector procurement. Delivery must occur within the timeframe specified upon contract award.
No specific trade certifications are mandated; however, bidders must demonstrate proven logistical and operational capacity to deliver commercial kitchen equipment within agreed timeframes. Suppliers must maintain active Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration, hold valid tax clearance status, and possess the capability to manage end-to-end delivery, basic on-site commissioning support, and after-sales warranty servicing. Familiarity with South African public supply chain management protocols is essential for compliance.
80/20 Preference Point System: Evaluation allocates 80 points to price competitiveness and 20 points to specific socio-economic goals. Full preference points are awarded to verify and promote South African-owned enterprises, supported by a valid CSD report. This system prioritizes historically disadvantaged and locally owned businesses while maintaining price fairness.
Warranty & Maintenance: A twelve-month warranty commences upon delivery and formal acceptance at the hospital. The supplier must repair or replace defective items at no cost to the purchaser within a reasonable timeframe.
Delay Penalties: Late delivery incurs financial penalties calculated daily at the current prime interest rate against the value of the delayed goods. Repeated non-performance may lead to contract termination and supplier restriction from future public sector contracts.
Five-Stage Evaluation Process: Quotations undergo mandatory assessments covering administrative compliance, delivery capacity, technical specification adherence, price/preference scoring, and sample verification. Failure at any stage results in immediate disqualification.
Conflict of Interest Disclosure (SBD 4): Bidders must complete a mandatory declaration disclosing any personal, familial, or business relationships with officials across the entire KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. Undisclosed interests constitute a false declaration and result in disqualification.

Most large tenders are composed of tasks in a number of different fields, and it is not always possible for a single company to cater for all of them, and therefore Joint Ventures and Consortia are formed to then submit a tender together.
Government tenders are also requiring the subcontracting of a percentage of the tender work, and the trouble is then finding Subcontractors to comply with the tender requirements
To assist companies with finding tender partners and subcontractors, you can now submit your contact details and company information on this page, so other interested parties can contact you for purposes of forming Joint Ventures and subcontracting
