Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure portering services at GJGM Regional Hospital for a period of four (4) months. The services aim to ensure efficient patient transport, specimen handling, corpse transportation, and related portering duties to support hospital operations.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of 15 portering staff members to cover day and night shifts as specified (6h00-18h00 and 18h00-6h00).
• Deployment of staff in wards and departments for patient, specimen, and equipment transportation.
• Supervision by an appointed supervisor who will be part of the staff complement.
• Conducting weekly site visits by senior representatives.
• Provision of uniforms for staff, replacement staff for leaves/emergencies, and adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
• Ensuring staff are courteous, identifiable, and compliant with hospital policies.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Staff must be equipped with uniforms and ID badges for easy identification.
• Staff must be trained in patient handling, safety procedures, and hospital protocols.
• Provision of staff for both day and night shifts, including supervisors.
• Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and Basic Conditions Act.
• Proper reporting and documentation of transportation activities, including collection of reports at specified times.
• Maintenance of equipment such as wheelchairs and stretchers, reporting faults, and ensuring cleanliness.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required for bidders include:

• Supervisors must possess at least a senior certificate (matric) with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, and demonstrate good communication and leadership skills.
• Portering staff must have basic literacy skills, be courteous, and able to handle patients and equipment safely.
• Staff must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
• Supervisors should be presentable, hygienic, and capable of working independently and within a team.
• All staff must undergo continuous on-the-job training, especially in patient handling and safety procedures.
