Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure portering and messenger services for Port Shepstone Hospital to ensure efficient patient transport, delivery of laboratory specimens, mail, and other related duties within the hospital environment.

Scope

The scope includes the supply, delivery, and management of porters and messengers to provide 24-hour portering services, covering both day and night shifts, for a period of 3 months initially, with potential extensions. The services encompass patient movement, transportation of corpses, laboratory specimens, mail, and general assistance within the hospital premises.

Technical Requirements

• Provision of 26 porters and messengers working in shifts (day and night) across 7 days a week.
• Porters must be equipped with uniforms, ID badges, safety shoes with steel caps, and two-way radios.
• Personnel must perform duties such as pushing wheelchairs, transporting patients, corpses, laboratory specimens, mail, and assisting mobile patients.
• Porters are required to maintain cleanliness of equipment and adhere to safety and conduct standards.
• The service provider must ensure proper supervision, staff discipline, and compliance with hospital policies.
• Provision of necessary equipment, uniforms, and safety gear by the contractor.
• Contract duration is initially 3 months, with possible renewal based on performance.

Skills Requirements

• Experience in portering and messenger services, with a minimum of 3 years preferred.
• Ability to operate two-way radios and communicate effectively within the hospital environment.
• Knowledge of hospital safety standards, patient handling, and confidentiality.
• Good interpersonal skills, professionalism, and courteous conduct.
• Ability to work in shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, including wearing safety footwear and uniforms.
• Capacity to manage and supervise staff, ensuring discipline and service quality.
