Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to deliver portering services at Northdale Hospital for a contract period of three (3) months. The services include transportation of patients, medical equipment, specimens, and documents within the hospital, ensuring efficient and courteous portering support to facilitate hospital operations.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Provision of 18 portering staff members, including supervisors, for both day (06:00 to 18:00) and night shifts (18:00 to 06:00).
• Deployment of staff across various wards and departments, not centralized in one location.
• Provision of uniforms, PPE, and adherence to hospital standards.
• Weekly site visits by the service provider’s senior representative.
• Replacement of staff for leave and emergencies.
• Responsibility for staff conduct, safety, and reporting of faulty equipment.
• Compliance with hospital policies, health and safety regulations, and community employment priorities.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Provision of portering services for a duration of three months.
• Deployment of 12 staff members for day shifts and 6 for night shifts, including supervisors.
• Staff must be provided with uniforms and PPE.
• Staff must be neatly dressed, courteous, and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Staff must be capable of transporting patients, specimens, and medical equipment safely and efficiently.
• Adherence to minimum wage rates as prescribed by the Department of Labour.
• Provision of a technical proposal confirming compliance with specifications and wage rates.
• Regular site visits and reporting to hospital management.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder’s staff must possess:

• Relevant experience in portering or similar support services within healthcare settings.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact courteously with patients, staff, and visitors.
• Knowledge of hospital safety protocols and patient confidentiality.
• Ability to operate hospital equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers, and medical transport devices.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety regulations.
• Capacity to respond promptly and professionally to emergency situations.
