Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply and install gallery lights, electrical works, and conveyor electrical systems at the Port Rail Terminal (PRT) in Richards Bay during a one-time Magnetite Shutdown. The goal is to enhance safety, lighting, and operational efficiency within the specified scope, ensuring compliance with Transnet’s standards and safety regulations.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply and installation of gallery lighting on specified galleries, including replacement of existing lights with heavy-duty IP65 fittings.
• Electrical works involving the replacement and installation of conveyor electrical systems, junction boxes, control cables, and associated components.
• Refurbishment and reinstallation of conveyor motors, gearboxes, and safety devices such as high detectors and trip switches.
• Ensuring all electrical components are OEM-approved or SABS-compliant and that all work is performed without disrupting terminal operations.
• Provision of a minimum 12-month warranty on parts and workmanship.

Technical Requirements

• Use of IP65-rated lighting fittings and dust-proof junction boxes (IP66-rated where specified).
• Replacement of existing cables, glands, and mounting adapters with new, compliant components.
• Neat and secure cable management, including bundling and labeling of all cables and wires.
• Alignment and testing of conveyor motors and gearboxes post-installation.
• Compliance with Transnet specifications, including quality control standards (EEAM-Q-009, EEAM-Q-012, EEAM-Q-018, EEAM-Q-020, etc.).
• Adherence to safety protocols, PPE requirements, and permit processes prior to commencement.
• Provision of post-installation backup support for at least one month at no additional cost.

Skills and Skills Requirements

• Qualified electrical contractors registered with the Electrical Contractors Board (ECB) or Department of Labour, with valid certificates.
• Experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and refurbishment of conveyor systems and gallery lighting in industrial or port environments.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
• Capability to execute work without interrupting terminal operations, ensuring safety and compliance at all times.
• Proficiency in cable management, motor alignment, and testing of electrical and mechanical components.
• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, including PPE protocols and permit requirements.
• Demonstrated track record of similar projects with references and previous experience in port or heavy industrial settings.
