Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified contractor to provide comprehensive pest control services at the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) Port of Saldanha. The services aim to effectively identify, eliminate, and monitor pests such as rodents, insects, and other related pests over a period of thirty-six (36) months, ensuring a pest-free environment across all specified assets and marine crafts.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of pest control inspections, treatments, and ongoing maintenance at various TNPA assets and marine crafts.
• Specific pest management activities such as fumigation, spraying of drains, barrier and soil treatments, and application of insecticides and rodent baiting devices.
• Monitoring and eradication of pests including rodents, rats, booklice, flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, and termites.
• Work to be carried out on all listed assets, with provisions for potential increase in monitoring due to new crafts arriving during the contract period.
• Preparation and submission of pest control plans, safety data sheets, and records of all activities.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Development of a comprehensive pest control plan with site-specific solutions.
• Use of approved pesticides, pest control devices, and equipment, with proper labeling and safety data sheets.
• Application of Best Available Techniques Not Entailing Excessive Cost (BATNEEC) to minimize chemical release.
• Regular scheduled visits, with specific dates and durations, to ensure continuous pest management.
• Quarterly fumigation of buildings and drain spraying for cockroach control.
• Provision of detailed reports and documentation after each treatment session.
• Adherence to occupational health and safety standards, including posting warning signs and ensuring safe handling of chemicals.
• Compliance with relevant legislation, including registration with the Department of Agriculture and adherence to SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) protocols.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in pest control services within industrial or port environments.
• Qualified personnel trained in pest management, chemical handling, and safety procedures.
• Ability to prepare and implement site-specific pest control plans.
• Competence in record-keeping, reporting, and documentation of all pest control activities.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and environmental management practices.
• Effective communication skills for liaising with TNPA staff and providing training or guidance as needed.
