Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure maintenance services for weighbridges at the Port of Richards Bay, ensuring their regular inspection, calibration, and maintenance over a period of 12 months. The goal is to maintain the accuracy, reliability, and safety of the weighbridges to support Transnet's cargo handling operations.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Monthly inspections of all weighbridges.
• Quarterly servicing of the weighbridges.
• Calibration of scales every 6 months.
• Supply of spare parts as required (refer Appendix B).
• Conducting detailed inspections for damage, cracks, corrosion, loose bolts, and other structural issues.
• Verification and certification of calibration by NRCS-approved companies.
• Replacement and greasing of bolts, nuts, washers, and other components during maintenance.
• Provision of inspection checklists and certification documentation.
• Adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations throughout the maintenance activities.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Provision of inspection sheets approved by TPT representatives.
• Use of certified weights (minimum 30% of total weighbridge capacity) for calibration.
• Calibration, verification, and certification by NRCS-approved companies.
• Replacement of damaged bolts, nuts, washers, and other components as needed.
• Greasing and adjustment of mechanical parts such as limiter bolts and swinger systems.
• Preparation of detailed inspection and calibration reports with certification.
• Implementation of preventive maintenance methodologies to improve operational efficiency.
• Compliance with all relevant safety, health, and environmental standards and legislation.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Valid SANAS accreditation for weighing instruments and calibration laboratories.
• NRCS certification for verification and certification of weighbridges.
• Qualified personnel with at least an N6 qualification or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, including Trade Test certification.
• Experience in calibration, maintenance, and repair of weighbridges and related equipment.
• Capability to supply and replace spare parts as per the specified list.
• Ability to provide detailed inspection, calibration, and maintenance reports.
• Compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, including submission of safety files and PPE adherence.
• Knowledge of relevant standards, codes, and legislation such as SANAS, NRCS, OHSA, and other applicable laws.
