Objectives

The primary objective is to restore and maintain the structural integrity and operational efficiency of the hospital’s central steam distribution network. This involves repairing compromised pipeline sections, replacing defective components, and accurately calibrating pressure regulation equipment to ensure safe, reliable steam delivery to critical clinical and support departments.

Scope of Work

• Execute repairs and component replacements across multiple facility zones, including the kitchen, laundry, greenhouse, finance department, theatre, ward areas, calorifiers, and boiler house.
• Install specified quantities of isolating valves, steam traps, sight glasses, barrel nipples, unions, strainers, and straight cornex couplers in diameters ranging from 15mm to 50mm.
• Calibrate the Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) station to deliver exactly 200kPa at the kitchen outlet.
• Conduct post-calibration pressure testing and issue official pressure test certificates.
• Perform X-ray inspections on all welding stitches, followed by thorough cleaning and commissioning.
• Schedule an appointment with the institution two working days prior to commencing work.
• Provide a documented warranty covering a minimum of six months post-completion.

Technical Requirements

• Valid CIDB registration at Grade 1ME or higher.
• Current CIPC company registration and verified Central Supplier Database (CSD) status.
• Up-to-date SARS tax clearance documentation.
• All replacement materials must comply with SANS/SABS standards for steam applications, accompanied by certificates of compliance.

Skills Requirements

• The assigned technician must hold a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)-certified trade test in Argon welding or mechanical fitting.
• Proven practical experience in industrial or healthcare steam pipeline maintenance and repair.
• Competency in pressure system calibration, non-destructive weld testing coordination, and steam trap functionality.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, manage site logistics, and produce compliant documentation for institutional sign-off.
