Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to replace the old storm water (drains) and waste water pipes at the National Institute for Occupational Health (NIOH) building in Braamfontein. The project aims to upgrade the existing drainage infrastructure to ensure proper water management, prevent leaks, and improve the overall sanitation and drainage system of the facility.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Removal and replacement of existing sewer and drainage pipes, fittings, and brackets.
• Installation of new rainwater goods, including gutters, downpipes, and associated fittings.
• Repair and patching of walls, floors, and plasterwork affected by pipe removal and installation.
• Supply and installation of new stormwater and waste water pipes, gutters, and associated accessories.
• Replacement of existing gutter boxes and rainwater systems with powder-coated steel components.
• Provision of contingencies and design allowances as per project requirements.
• Coordination with hospital operations to ensure minimal disruption during construction, including phased work and after-hours operations where necessary.
• Compliance with all relevant standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the tender include:

• Use of approved materials such as SABS-approved pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
• Installation of rainwater goods with specified dimensions (e.g., 400mm x 400mm gutters, 110mm PVC downpipes).
• Supply and fit of galvanised steel rainwater systems with specified thickness (e.g., 0.8mm).
• Proper connection and sealing of all pipe joints, gutters, and fittings according to manufacturer instructions.
• Replacement of existing plumbing fixtures with new, compliant units, including sinks, toilets, urinals, and emergency showers.
• Electrical work to be carried out by registered electricians, including installation of Geysers, lighting, and power outlets, in accordance with SANS10142 standards.
• Provision of adequate protection for existing structures and finishes during construction.
• Implementation of health and safety measures, including signage, barricades, and safe working conditions.
• Guarantee, maintenance, and defect rectification for a period of 12 months post-installation.
• Adherence to the project timeline, including phased completion and coordination with hospital operations.
