Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to solicit quotations for the renovation of the NHLS Wentworth Laboratory. The project aims to upgrade and refurbish the laboratory facilities to meet operational and safety standards, ensuring a fully functional and compliant environment for laboratory activities.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Site inspection and assessment during a compulsory site meeting.
• Preparation of existing surfaces including cracks, mortar joints, painted walls, timber, masonry, and steel surfaces.
• Repair and maintenance of cracks, joints, and surfaces as specified.
• Painting and coating of walls, ceilings, doors, and joinery with specified finishes.
• Installation of plumbing fixtures including sinks, taps, geysers, toilets, urinals, and associated plumbing works.
• Electrical installations including wiring, outlets, switches, lighting, and lab equipment circuits.
• Replacement and installation of doors, windows, glazing, blinds, and suspended ceilings.
• Partitioning using drywall systems and support frames.
• Flooring works including tiling, vinyl, and carpet installations.
• Installation of fixtures such as mirrors, blinds, and other internal glass.
• Provision for safety, security, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify adherence to:

• Compliance with the Standard Conditions of Contract (GCC) and relevant legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993.
• Use of SABS approved materials, fixtures, and fittings.
• Proper preparation, priming, and finishing of surfaces as per manufacturer specifications.
• Installation of electrical and plumbing systems by registered professionals.
• Installation of glazing with specified safety and tinting standards.
• Use of approved tiles, grouts, and waterproofing materials.
• Implementation of safety measures including scaffolding, hoarding, and pedestrian management during construction.
• Completion of work within the specified timeframe, with provisions for delays and penalties.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• CIDB registration in the grading designation 2GB or higher, indicating capability in construction and renovation works.
• Experience in laboratory or similar refurbishment projects, with references and completion certificates.
• Qualified and registered professionals including plumbers, electricians, and painters.
• Capability to manage site safety, quality control, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Ability to coordinate multiple trades and ensure minimal disruption to ongoing laboratory operations.
• Provision of project management and supervision staff with relevant qualifications and experience.
