Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure the supply and installation of partitioning, soundproofing, and doors within the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) room and the Faculty Head’s office at the Port Terminals and Marine Faculty of Transnet Academy. The aim is to address workspace deficiencies by creating enclosed, confidential, and acoustically controlled environments to support operational confidentiality, privacy, and efficiency.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Constructing a full-height drywall partition to divide the existing VTS room into two enclosed offices.
• Installing acoustic insulation (50mm–75mm glass wool or equivalent) within the drywall cavity for soundproofing.
• Fitting a solid-core internal door with necessary frames, hinges, lockset, handles, and finishing into the newly created VTS office.
• Installing a solid-core door at the Faculty Head’s office, including full framing, hinges, lockset, handles, and finishing.
• Painting all new walls and doors to match existing office colors.
• Protecting existing floors, ceilings, furniture, and equipment during construction.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, safety, and building regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• The drywall partition must include 76mm or 89mm light steel stud framework, gypsum boards on both sides, perimeter sealing, jointing, skimming, finishing, and sanding to paintable condition.
• All materials used for soundproofing must meet SANS 10103 acoustic standards, achieving a noise-reduction coefficient suitable for confidential operational use.
• Partition must comply with SANS 10400 internal wall requirements and be securely fixed to the floor slab, ceiling structure, and adjoining walls.
• Installation of internal doors must include a timber frame, hinges, lockset with two keys, handles, door stops, and finishing with primer and two coats of professional-grade paint.
• All work must adhere to Transnet building standards, Occupational Health & Safety regulations, and relevant SANS standards.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must possess:

• Qualified expertise in drywall partition construction, including steel stud framing, gypsum board installation, and finishing.
• Experience in acoustic insulation installation and soundproofing compliant with SANS 10103 standards.
• Proficiency in installing solid-core doors with proper framing, hardware, and finishing.
• Knowledge of relevant building codes, safety procedures, and occupational health standards.
• Capability to protect existing infrastructure and ensure quality finishes that match existing office environments.
• Compliance with all legal, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to construction and installation works.
