Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to conduct an engineering geotechnical investigation of streets in the Simile Township, Sabie, within the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality. The investigation aims to gather essential geotechnical data to support street design and construction, ensuring infrastructure development aligns with technical requirements and local needs.

Scope of Work

The scope includes:

• Design support for approximately 1,500 meters of street infrastructure.
• Conducting a comprehensive engineering geotechnical investigation along the specified streets.
• Testing each encountered soil layer to a depth of 450mm, including tests for properties such as linear shrinkage and other relevant geotechnical parameters.
• Providing detailed geotechnical information necessary for street design, including soil stability and suitability assessments.
• Post-investigation, preparing reports and recommendations based on the collected data to facilitate street construction planning.

The investigation area is indicated on the provided map (Figure 1: Simile streets), focusing on the specific zones requiring geotechnical analysis.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the investigation include:

• Sampling and testing of soil layers encountered at depths up to 450mm.
• Testing for properties such as linear shrinkage and other relevant geotechnical parameters.
• Use of appropriate testing standards (e.g., V 32.5) for soil classification and analysis.
• Provision of detailed geotechnical reports that include soil stability, bearing capacity, and recommendations for foundation design.
• Completion of investigation within the specified area, adhering to the scope and technical standards outlined.

The investigation results will inform the design process, ensuring the streets are constructed on suitable ground conditions and minimizing future geotechnical risks.
