Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider to replace a faulty traffic barrier/boom gate at St Apollinaris Hospital. The project aims to restore proper access control and security at the hospital premises by installing a new, compliant traffic barrier or boom gate that meets specified technical standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply and installation of a new industrial traffic barrier or boom gate, including all necessary materials and labor.
• Carrying out electrical work required for the proper functioning of the barrier, including connection, testing, and commissioning.
• Earthworks such as excavation and site clearance as specified in the project documents.
• Construction of concrete plinths, bases, and reinforcement as per technical specifications.
• Metal work including the supply and installation of the barrier housing, pole, and related components.
• Adherence to health and safety standards, site inspections, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
• Provision of warranties, certificates of compliance, and post-installation testing.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the project include:

• Use of CIDB grade 1GB/1EB/1EP or above for the company.
• Supply of a high-volume industrial traffic barrier with sector enclosure, gearbox assembly, boom pole (6m), electronic control, and remote operation capabilities.
• Housing construction from sheet metal with epoxy coating, and aluminium round profile poles with reflective markings.
• Secure installation using M12 anchor bolts into concrete plinths.
• Electrical work to include connection to existing power supply, motor control, fuse protection, and testing.
• Earthworks including excavation, concrete casting, and reinforcement as per standards.
• Compliance with South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant regulations.
• Provision of a Certificate of Compliance for electrical installations upon completion.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in installing and commissioning industrial traffic barriers or boom gates.
• Qualified artisans or technicians with relevant electrical or civil trades qualifications, approved by SAQA and certified in South Africa.
• Capability to execute earthworks, concrete work, and metal fabrication to specified standards.
• Knowledge of health and safety protocols, site management, and compliance with regulations.
• Ability to provide technical support, testing, and certification post-installation.
• Demonstrated capacity to complete similar projects successfully, with references and proof of previous work.
