Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure sterile Level 4 gowns that meet specified safety, quality, and sterility standards for use in surgical procedures at Greys Hospital. The gowns are intended to serve as a barrier against fluid and microbial transmission, ensuring the safety of both patients and healthcare workers during major surgeries involving significant fluid exposure.

Scope

The scope includes the supply of sterile Level 4 surgeon gowns, packaged in peel packs, with reinforcement, non-woven material, and fluid-repellent properties. The gowns must be available in specified sizes (XL and XXL), conform to relevant standards (SANS 53795), and include necessary accessories such as hand towels. The procurement covers a total of 50 units per case, with detailed specifications on material, packaging, and sterility requirements, for use in orthopedic and other major surgeries at Grey’s Hospital.

Technical Requirements

• Gowns must be sterile, peel-packed, and individually double packed.
• Material: Non-woven polypropylene with minimum 54GSM for the body and 66GSM for sleeves, certified for material mass.
• Reinforcement: Inside front from chest to top of gown, and inside sleeves from cuff to full length.
• Fluid-repellent certification, non-toxic, non-irritant, bacterial migration resistant in wet and dry conditions, low linting, low flammability.
• Long sleeves with cuffs, approximately ¾ length (between ankle and mid-calf).
• Color: Blue.
• Gown sizes: XL (148cm x 165cm x 70cm x 8cm) and XXL (156cm x 180cm x 70cm x 80cm x 8cm).
• Contents wrapped in a non-woven towel (minimum 600x600mm) for sterile opening.
• Packaging: Peel pack with clear markings including contents, expiry date, manufacturing date, manufacturer details.
• Additional: Two 2-ply, white, virgin pulp, lint-free, high-absorbency hand towels (300x200mm folded).
• Compliance with SANS 53795 standard.

Skills Requirements

• Manufacturing capability to produce sterile, high-quality surgical gowns adhering to national standards (SANS 53795).
• Certification and documentation proving fluid-repellent properties, sterility, and material specifications.
• Experience in packaging sterile medical garments to maintain sterility during handling and transport.
• Ability to supply in specified sizes and quantities, with proper labeling and documentation.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, including certification for non-toxicity, low linting, and flammability standards.
• Quality assurance processes to ensure consistent product sterility and material integrity.
