Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply and install 20 hydroboil units (5-litre capacity) at Addington Hospital. The project aims to provide instant boiling water to support clinical kitchens, staff rooms, sterilization processes, and beverage preparation, ensuring reliable and hygienic hot-water access within the hospital environment.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply of 20 SABS-approved 5-litre hydroboil units with hygienic finish suitable for hospital use.
• Delivery of units to Addington Hospital.
• Provision of all necessary ancillaries such as isolating valves, pressure-reducing valves (if required), overflow/vent piping, wall-fixing bolts, and water supply and drainage connections.
• Commissioning and testing to ensure each unit fills, boils, dispenses correctly, and safety devices are functional. Includes handover with user instructions, maintenance guides, and installation documentation.
• Removal of obsolete water-heating units and making good of walls/tiling/paint if replacing existing equipment.

Technical Requirements

The units must meet the following technical specifications:

• Approved under South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) or equivalent.
• Capacity: 5 litres per unit.
• Construction: stainless-steel casing or hygienic finish for durability and hygiene.
• Plumbing: cold-water inlet, isolating valve, strainers, overflow/vent pipe terminating into drainage, approved fittings, and flush supply pipes.
• Water pressure: installation of pressure-reducing valve if supply exceeds specified pressure (e.g., 400 kPa).
• Electrical: compliant with hospital and local electrical safety standards, including wiring, circuit breakers, and proper grounding.
• Safety: thermal overload protection, level installation, secure wall-mounting, and sufficient clearance for maintenance and safe dispensing.
• Documentation: as-built drawings, user manual, maintenance schedule, and certificates of compliance.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in installing hospital-grade water heating and plumbing systems, including wet services and drainage.
• Capability to supply and install SABS-approved hydroboil units with proper commissioning and testing.
• Ability to remove and dispose of existing obsolete units and carry out wall/tiling/paint repairs as needed.
• Compliance with safety standards and submission of safety files, CIDB registration (minimum grade 1 SO), and relevant experience certificates.
• Capacity to complete the project within a two-week period, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations.
