Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, deliver, and install emergency showers and eyewash stations at the Forensic Chemistry Laboratory in Cape Town. The project aims to ensure the laboratory is equipped with compliant safety equipment to meet safety standards and regulatory requirements, thereby enhancing safety for personnel working in hazardous environments.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Supply of emergency showers and eyewash stations compliant with ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 and EN 15154-1 standards.
• Delivery and installation of floor-mounted stainless steel emergency showers and wall-mounted eyewash stations at specified locations within the laboratory.
• Provision of alarm systems to alert personnel upon activation of the units.
• Supply of associated plumbing fittings, signage, and accessories.
• Provision of training for staff on the proper use and maintenance of the equipment.
• Annual maintenance and servicing of the units post-installation.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Compliance with relevant safety standards (ANSI/ISEA Z358.1, EN 15154-1).
• Flow rate of 6 liters per minute for showers and eyewash stations.
• Activation valves that open within one second and remain open until manually closed.
• Ability to run water for a minimum of 15 minutes.
• Units must be accessible within 10 seconds of any hazard.
• Flow pressure must be safe and not cause further injury.
• Installation of alarm systems to alert when units are activated.
• Provision of signage (size 190x190mm) for emergency stations.
• Supply of three reference letters from recent similar projects.

Skills and Experience Requirements

Bidder must demonstrate:

• CIDB grading of 2GB/EB/ME or higher.
• Valid Letter of Good Standing from COIDA.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supply, delivery, and installation of emergency safety equipment.
• Provision of three recent reference letters (not older than 5 years) from clients for similar projects.
• Project management experience with a qualified project manager or supervisor with at least 3 years’ relevant experience.
• Availability of standby maintenance vehicles and personnel for ongoing servicing.
• Capability to carry out work in a fully operational laboratory environment, including phased work schedules and after-hours work if necessary.
