Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure deep hole drilling and machining services to support Eskom Generation maintenance activities. These services are intended to facilitate planned outages, interim outages, statutory inspections, emergent breakdown repairs, and unplanned maintenance across the Eskom fleet, including Hendrina, Kusile, and Medupi Power Stations. The service provider shall deliver specialized machining services, including drilling of components such as turbine casing studs and bolts, valve bodies, thermowells, flanges, nozzles, and pressure parts, ensuring compliance with OEM and Eskom specifications. Final machining aims to restore components to serviceable condition, ready for installation, adhering to technical standards and specifications.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Provision of deep hole drilling services on high-temperature materials, achieving OEM-specified dimensions, tolerances, concentricity, straightness, and surface finish.
• Final machining operations to restore components to operational standards, including handling, traceability, and protection against damage.
• Documentation of each completed job, including skills and competency confirmation, training, supervision, health, safety, and environmental compliance.
• Support for maintenance activities across multiple Eskom power stations, including outage support, emergent repairs, and statutory inspections.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Execution of deep hole drilling on specified components with precision to OEM and Eskom standards.
• Final machining to ensure components meet all technical specifications and are ready for installation.
• Use of appropriate fixtures, cutting fluids, and handling procedures to ensure quality and traceability.
• Provision of comprehensive documentation, including work reports, inspection records, and competency certificates.
• Adherence to ISO standards, health, safety, and environmental regulations, including asbestos management and hazard controls.
• Compliance with Eskom’s SHEQ standards and procedures.
• Effective scheduling and timely delivery of services aligned with outage and maintenance schedules.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender specifies that all personnel involved in machining operations must possess:

• Qualified and competent machinists, with certifications or equivalent qualifications (e.g., CNC lathe, milling machine, conventional lathe).
• Training and certification in relevant machining processes and safety standards.
• Maintenance of a current Skills and Competency Matrix for all machinists, listing qualifications, experience, and responsibilities.
• Supervisory oversight by qualified engineering technicians or equivalent personnel.
• Adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, with proper PPE, handling, and documentation.

Additional skills include:

• Ability to interpret technical drawings and OEM specifications.
• Proficiency in using specialized machining equipment and fixtures.
• Effective communication and documentation skills for reporting and compliance.
