Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to deliver specialised exhibition installation and hanging services at Iziko Museums. This includes the installation, hanging, and mounting of artworks, heritage objects, and multimedia components, ensuring they are securely and professionally displayed in accordance with exhibition requirements.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Provision of specialised installation services for artworks, AV components, and museum collections across multiple sites, including the Iziko South African National Gallery and Groot Constantia Manor House.
• Installation of artworks of varying sizes, including complex and oversized pieces, with specific mounting solutions tailored to each item.
• Design, fabrication, and delivery of custom mounts, supports, and rigging solutions.
• Reversible and non-invasive installation methods suitable for heritage and sensitive environments, especially at Groot Constantia.
• Site assessments, planning, coordination, and safety compliance prior to installation.
• Completion of installation within specified timeframes, ensuring artworks are securely and aesthetically displayed.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Experience with hanging services for small, medium, and large framed works, as well as oversized or complex artworks.
• Ability to install artworks using specialised mounting solutions such as wooden dowels, custom brackets, tension rod systems, and discreet securing methods like monofilament.
• Use of appropriate hardware including wall anchors, screws, hooks, fixings, and supports to ensure secure and stable installations.
• Implementation of heritage-sensitive installation methods at Groot Constantia, avoiding drilling or permanent alterations, and employing reversible solutions like tension rods and tension systems.
• Provision of all necessary tools, equipment, and materials for installation, including rigging, supports, and fixings.
• Adherence to safety standards and coordination with Iziko teams for site access and logistics.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• At least six (6) years of experience in handling and installing high-value, heritage, and irreplaceable artworks and objects.
• Proven capability in fabricating and installing specialised mounts, brackets, and non-standard supports for diverse artworks and collections.
• Experience working within heritage and museum environments, with an understanding of sensitive installation techniques that preserve the integrity of historic sites.
• Ability to plan and execute complex installation projects independently, including site assessments, safety planning, and coordination.
• Strong technical skills in rigging, mounting, and secure installation of artworks and heritage objects.
• Capacity to provide references and evidence of successful past projects in similar settings.
