Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified landscape architectural services provider to develop a comprehensive landscape upgrade design for OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA). The design should enhance indoor and outdoor spaces, focusing on sustainability, functionality, and aesthetics by integrating natural elements with built structures. The scope includes site planning, ecological restoration, park design, and detailed construction documentation, ensuring the new landscape harmonizes with existing architectural features.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Conducting thorough site assessments considering environmental factors such as vegetation, soils, climate, and existing structures.
• Developing initial artistic impression designs in 2D and 3D, including all related Bill of Quantities.
• Producing detailed construction drawings, implementation plans, and maintenance recommendations.
• Designing indoor and outdoor gardens, water features, irrigation systems, lighting, and recreational areas.
• Upgrading existing landscape features across various zones within ORTIA, including terminal areas, parkades, viewing decks, and internal spaces.
• Delivering project documentation covering design plans, construction details, maintenance, and supervision strategies.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Preparation of comprehensive landscape design plans with artistic impressions in both 2D and 3D formats.
• Design of irrigation systems, water features, rockery, and planting schemes that promote ecological balance and low maintenance.
• Proposals for upgrading walking paths, recreational features, and environmental impact assessments.
• Provision of detailed Bill of Quantities for all design elements to facilitate construction.
• Development of maintenance and service plans for indoor and outdoor landscaping.
• Compliance with environmental standards and safety regulations, including obtaining necessary permits.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture with SAQA accreditation.
• Professional Affiliation: Membership with the South African Council for the Landscape Architectural Profession (SACLAP).
• Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience in landscape design, with a preference for 10+ years, supported by contactable references.
• Team Leadership: Ability to provide on-site supervision, ensuring safety protocols, PPE compliance, and quality control through toolbox talks and equipment evaluations.
• Company Experience: Proven track record with at least 3 references or completion certificates in landscape architecture projects, demonstrating expertise in similar work.
