Objectives

The primary objective of the tender is to facilitate the installation of tubular aluminium conductors, associated cabling, earthing, and erection activities at Mookodi Substation as part of the 500MVA transformer project. The scope includes stringing, cabling, earthing, and associated activities to ensure reliable electrical connections and system stability.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Supply, delivery, and installation of tubular aluminium conductors (both 132kV and 400kV), clamps, spacers, and associated hardware.
• Stringing, cabling, and earthing of conductors and equipment in the substation yard.
• Installation of insulators, surge arrestors, voltage transformers, and other ancillary equipment.
• Disconnection, removal, and reinstallation of existing equipment and foundations as required.
• Provision of all necessary tools, equipment, and labour for the activities.
• Compliance with specified standards, drawings, and safety requirements.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Adherence to specified conductor sizes, lengths, and installation procedures as per drawings and standards.
• Use of approved clamps, spacers, and accessories as per specified pro-formas and drawings.
• Proper earthing and grounding of all equipment and conductors, including earthmat installation and testing.
• Implementation of correct stringing, tensioning, and installation methods to ensure system integrity.
• Compliance with relevant standards such as SANS 1200, IEC, and Eskom specifications.
• Provision of detailed method statements, test procedures, and quality assurance documentation prior to and during installation.
• Environmental management and safety protocols as per Eskom and statutory requirements.

Skills and Competency Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in high-voltage conductor stringing, cabling, and earthing in substations, preferably within Eskom or similar environments.
• Qualified personnel including certified cable jointers, linemen, and earthing specialists with relevant training and certifications.
• Capability to prepare and submit detailed method statements, test plans, and quality assurance documentation.
• Availability of appropriate tools, equipment, and machinery for conductor installation, tensioning, and earthing activities.
• Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations applicable to high-voltage electrical works.
• Ability to coordinate with Eskom’s project team and adhere to project schedules and safety standards.
