Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to provide comprehensive basic sanitation services in Slovo Park informal settlement, including the design, construction, and commissioning of sewer reticulation, installation of pour-flush toilets, construction of manholes, and rehabilitation of existing facilities. The project aims to improve sanitation infrastructure, ensure environmental compliance, and promote community health and safety.

Scope

The scope encompasses the following key activities:

• Construction of approximately 484 meters of new HDPE sewer pipelines (200mm and 250mm diameter) using open trench and labour-intensive methods.
• Installation of approximately 958 pour-flush toilet structures, including superstructures, cisterns, and associated fittings.
• Construction of around 230 HDPE manholes and tie-ins to existing outfall pipelines.
• Demolition, desludging, fumigation, rehabilitation, and disposal of existing VIP toilets.
• Provision of all labour, materials, plant, temporary works, and safety measures necessary for the completion of the works.
• Implementation of environmental management, health and safety protocols, and community liaison activities.
• Verification and confirmation of existing service locations, levels, and depths prior to construction.
• Coordination with relevant authorities for permits, wayleaves, and approvals.
• Testing, commissioning, and handover of the completed sanitation facilities.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Use of HDPE pipes complying with SANS 1200 standards, with a minimum pressure rating of PN8.
• Construction of sewer pipelines with proper bedding, jointing, and testing to ensure watertightness and structural integrity.
• Installation of pour-flush toilets with leak-proof cisterns, superstructures, and necessary accessories, adhering to approved designs and specifications.
• Construction of manholes with precast concrete or HDPE rings, including proper reinforcement, bedding, and waterproofing.
• Implementation of trenchless technology (pipe cracking and horizontal directional drilling) where applicable, with specified equipment and procedures.
• Compliance with all relevant SABS standards, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety legislation.
• Provision of detailed drawings, shop drawings, and as-built records, approved by the Employer’s Agent.
• Adherence to specified tolerances, quality control measures, and testing protocols for all materials and workmanship.
• Community engagement, notification, and management of traffic and safety during construction activities.
• Preparation of detailed work programmes, safety plans, and environmental management plans, with regular updates and approvals.
