Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified service provider for the removal and relocation of the Gaiasphere at the Iziko South African Museum. The service includes deinstallation, safe rigging, transportation, and reinstallation of the Gaiasphere in a new designated space within the museum.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Deinstallation of the existing Gaiasphere.
• Rigging and safe transportation of the Gaiasphere to the new location specified by Iziko.
• Reinstallation of the Gaiasphere in the new space, ensuring proper setup and functionality.
• Provision of personnel, facilities, and equipment to ensure effective performance.
• Supply of a health and safety file compliant with relevant standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Preparation of a comprehensive method statement detailing the deinstallation, rigging, transportation, and installation processes.
• Demonstration of relevant experience in rigging large and heavy objects, supported by at least five (5) reference letters from previous projects not older than five years.
• Provision of a detailed project plan with timelines and safety protocols, including PPE usage.
• Warrant of workmanship certificate for a period of at least two years.
• Supply of all necessary equipment, personnel, and facilities to execute the project efficiently.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must possess:

• Proven experience in rigging and handling large, heavy objects, supported by relevant references.
• Capability to develop and implement detailed project plans with clear timelines.
• Expertise in health and safety compliance, including the preparation of safety files.
• Technical proficiency in deinstallation, rigging, transportation, and reinstallation of complex exhibits.
• Qualified personnel with appropriate certifications and experience in handling sensitive and valuable museum equipment.
