Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to replace cracked windows at the ATNS Building at Upington Airport. The goal is to restore the building envelope's integrity, ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and maintain uninterrupted ATNS operations during the works.

Scope of Work

The scope includes:

• Safe removal and disposal of seven (7) cracked double-glazed windows (6 mm airgap glass in 63 mm steel frames sealed with weather-resistant sealant).
• Preparation of frames and installation of new tinted double-glazed toughened safety glass.
• Replacement of deteriorated sealants and making good the affected areas.
• Cleaning, testing, and final handover of the replaced windows.
• Ensuring ATNS operations remain unaffected throughout the project.

The contractor shall supply all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and access tools necessary for the complete execution of the window replacement works.

Technical Requirements

• Use of 12 mm toughened double-glazed glass with a pane configuration of 3/25 mm.
• Compliance with relevant standards and specifications, including regular coordination meetings with the Employer’s Representative and ATNS stakeholders.
• Adherence to NEC 3 contract forms and procedures.
• Proper removal, disposal, and replacement of existing glazing and sealants.
• Installation of new tinted double-glazed safety glass, with proper sealing and finishing.
• Testing of installed windows to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
• Work to be scheduled to avoid disruption to ATNS operations, including phased or after-hours work if necessary.

Skills and Qualifications Requirements

• CIDB Contractor Grading: Minimum of 1SG or higher.
• Experience: Proven experience in glazing, sealant application, and structural glass installation, especially in airport or control tower environments. Demonstrable experience must be supported by project references and client contact details.
• Personnel Qualifications:
  • Project Supervisor: Certified qualification (e.g., NQF Level 2) with relevant experience in glazing and structural works.
  • Glaziers and Glass Installers: Demonstrable experience in glazing, sealant application, and structural glass installation, supported by CVs and project references.
• Methodology: Submission of a detailed Method Statement outlining the approach to surface preparation, installation, site management, and safety considerations.
• Standards Compliance: Materials and methods must adhere to South African National Standards (SANS) and industry best practices.
• Health and Safety: Demonstrated competence in occupational health and safety management, including risk assessments, emergency procedures, PPE provision, and incident reporting.
• Insurance: Valid proof of insurance coverage, including public liability and contractor’s all-risk insurance, must be provided.
