Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure professional multidisciplinary services for the refurbishment and upgrading of airbridges and boarding gates at King Shaka International Airport. The project aims to modernize existing facilities, improve operational standards, enhance passenger experience, and align with international industry standards. Additionally, the project seeks to incorporate green building technologies, reduce environmental footprint, and improve the airport’s brand image.

Scope

The scope involves the design, refurbishment, enhancement, and modernization of existing airbridge and boarding gate facilities. Key aspects include:

• Refurbishing worn and outdated components such as carpets, walls, doors, ceilings, and ventilation systems.
• Upgrading facilities to meet current operational and international standards.
• Reconfiguring and optimizing layouts as needed.
• Ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing airport operations during phased implementation.
• Incorporating energy-efficient and green building technologies.
• Improving robustness of structural frames and reducing failure points.

The design must integrate international standards, building regulations, technological innovations, and reconfigurations to enhance functionality, aesthetics, and technical performance.

• Refurbishment of existing airbridge and boarding gate infrastructure to a modern, energy-efficient standard.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate the capacity and expertise in the following areas:

• Project Management: Certified project managers with SACPCMP accreditation (Pr-CPM), with proven experience in large-scale refurbishment projects.
• Architectural Expertise: Registered professional architects (Pr-Arch SACAP) with relevant experience in building refurbishment and design.
• Built Environment Consulting: Multidisciplinary team including engineers, environmental specialists, and green building experts.
• Experience in Airport Infrastructure: Proven track record in refurbishing or upgrading airport facilities, with references for projects exceeding R9 million in value.
• Technical Skills: Ability to incorporate international standards, building regulations, and innovative technological solutions.
• Environmental and Green Building Skills: Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy-efficient technologies.
• Security and Compliance: Ability to meet security vetting requirements and compliance with local and international standards.
