Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider responsible for the graphic design and layout of the exhibition content for the Nelson Mandela Prison House. The selected provider will develop professional design execution and production of all exhibition materials, ensuring alignment with the pre-approved content and style guidelines.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Design system development and resolution optimization for print production.
• Designing and producing approximately 30 indoor glass display panels, 6 Corten steel panels, 12 milestone panels, and 30 Forex panels.
• Creating mock-ups, samples, and final print-ready files within specified timelines.
• Overseeing printing and installation processes in collaboration with appointed printers and on-site in Paarl.
• Delivering all open and print files for future reprints or modifications.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the project include:

• Adherence to the already developed design approach and style guidelines provided by Iziko Museums.
• Designing within the approved content, including texts, photographs, and images.
• Producing high-resolution, print-ready design files within 3 weeks of appointment.
• Providing samples, mock-ups, and proofing for approval at various stages.
• Ensuring quality control during printing and installation, with oversight in Cape Town and Paarl.
• Delivering all files on external drives for future use.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Extensive experience as a layout artist, graphic designer, or creative agency with a proven track record in museum or gallery exhibitions and print media.
• Ability to provide a portfolio of at least 10 relevant projects, showcasing high-quality design work.
• Strong references—minimum of four verifiable reference letters from previous clients—demonstrating successful project delivery, teamwork, and adherence to deadlines and budgets.
• A senior team member with demonstrated experience in overseeing complex, multi-page publication or exhibition layouts, with a clear CV highlighting leadership roles and content management skills.
• Proficiency in typographic control, layout principles, and attention to detail, ensuring professional, readable, and visually balanced outputs across all submitted examples.
