Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified professional service provider to design, develop, and oversee the upgrade of Air Handling Units (AHU) and Fan Coil Units (FCU) at Cape Town International Airport. The project aims to enhance operational reliability, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and extend the lifespan of existing HVAC systems within a period not exceeding 36 months.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Design, engineering, documentation, and construction management of Stages 1–6 for AHU and FCU systems.
• Replacement of existing AHU and FCU units across multiple terminal buildings and office blocks, including associated ancillary equipment.
• Preparation of detailed design reports, cost estimates, tender documentation, and procurement support.
• Construction supervision, quality control, and project close-out activities.
• Coordination with airport operational requirements, safety protocols, and environmental standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Development of detailed design specifications for AHU and FCU units, including duct sizing, fan curves, coil selection, and integration with existing systems.
• Design of control systems, including sensors, actuators, dampers, and BMS integration for remote monitoring.
• Provision of vibration isolators, flexible duct connectors, condensate piping, and electrical protection devices.
• Compliance with South African National Standards (SANS), ICAO, and international best practices.
• Preparation of construction drawings, specifications, and tender documentation adhering to ACSA standards.
• Implementation of environmental and safety management measures during design and construction phases.

Skills Requirements

The successful service provider must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in HVAC design, specifically in airport or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Competence in mechanical, electrical, fire, and civil/structural engineering disciplines.
• Knowledge of South African building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Capability to prepare detailed design reports, cost estimates, and tender documentation.
• Experience in construction supervision, quality assurance, and project management within operational airport environments.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with airport authorities, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of environmental management systems and occupational health and safety requirements.
