Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to perform a comprehensive borehole investigation in Goldenview informal settlement. This includes assessing the feasibility and characteristics of potential borehole sites for water extraction, ensuring sustainable groundwater use, and selecting the most suitable location for drilling. The investigation aims to evaluate groundwater resource potential based on collected data, with an emphasis on sustainable management without causing long-term aquifer depletion.

Scope

The scope of work includes the following activities:

1. Site investigation, mapping, and geophysical surveys to identify optimal drilling locations capable of supporting successful boreholes with maximum yield.
2. Groundwater resource assessment to determine the potential and sustainability of natural water resources, ensuring no over-extraction.
3. Drilling and yield testing, including step-drawdown and sustained yield tests to measure aquifer capacity, drawdown, and water quality as per latest SANS 241 standards.
4. Preparation and submission of detailed reports analyzing findings from the investigations, geophysical surveys, and testing, to be approved by a professional scientist.

Technical Requirements

• Compliance with environmental and safety regulations during all activities.
• Use of geophysical survey methods to identify suitable drilling sites.
• Drilling of boreholes with capacity to support water extraction needs.
• Conducting step-drawdown and yield tests to evaluate aquifer capacity and water quality.
• Preparation of comprehensive reports detailing site investigations, geophysical survey results, and test outcomes, approved by a qualified scientist.
• Adherence to the latest SANS 241 standards for water quality assessment.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

• Qualified Professional Scientist (Pr Sci Nat) with relevant certifications from SACNASP or equivalent, with at least 3 years of practical experience in hydrology, environmental science, or related fields.
• At least two experienced hydrologists or water professionals with relevant degrees (e.g., BTech, BSc, MSc) and proven experience in groundwater investigations.
• Ability to conduct geophysical surveys, borehole drilling, and yield testing according to industry standards.
• Capability to analyze data and produce detailed technical reports for approval by a professional scientist.
• Experience in sustainable groundwater management and environmental compliance.
