Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint an experienced Service Provider to conduct a geotechnical investigation in Rosettenville for a sewer infrastructure project. The investigation aims to provide sound and adequate geotechnical recommendations to enable the Engineer to produce designs and execute construction projects properly during the contract period.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Carrying out detailed geotechnical investigations such as trial pits, soil borings, geophysical surveys, laboratory testing, and site reconnaissance.
• Obtaining permits and wayleaves from relevant authorities for work in built-up areas.
• Logging and profiling of soil and rock, assessing soil corrosivity, and evaluating stray currents.
• Preparing geotechnical data, evaluation, and recommendations reports.
• Monitoring during construction in dolomitic conditions.
• Ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Providing geotechnical evaluations for pipeline routes, pump stations, reservoirs, and other infrastructure.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Provision of qualified geotechnical professionals with current registration with ECSA or SACNASP, including senior geologists/geotechnologists and laboratory technicians.
• Use of accredited laboratories for soil testing, including chemical, corrosivity, and geotechnical tests.
• Implementation of geophysical investigations such as seismic, resistivity, or electromagnetic surveys.
• Execution of trial pits and soil borings with detailed logging, profiling, and sampling, adhering to safety standards and reinstatement procedures.
• Assessment of soil corrosivity and stray currents, including field measurements and laboratory analyses.
• Preparation of comprehensive geotechnical data, evaluation, and recommendations reports, including interpretation of field and laboratory data.
• Compliance with relevant South African and international standards (e.g., BS 1377 series, ASTM D7012, ISO standards).
• Submission of Health and Safety Files prior to commencement and ongoing safety compliance during investigations.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires the following skills and qualifications:

• Professional registration with ECSA or SACNASP for senior geotechnical engineers/geologists and geotechnologists.
• Qualifications such as B.Tech or BSc in Civil, Mining Engineering, Geology, or related fields.
• Proven experience in geotechnical investigations, especially in pipeline projects and local soil conditions.
• Experience with laboratory testing, geophysical surveys, and soil corrosivity assessments.
• Ability to prepare detailed geotechnical reports, including data interpretation and recommendations.
• Competence in safety procedures, environmental compliance, and obtaining permits and wayleaves.
• Strong project management skills, including planning, programming, and coordination with other service providers and stakeholders.
