Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint an experienced Service Provider to conduct a comprehensive geotechnical investigation for the Davidsonville Sewer Pipe Replacement Project. The investigation aims to provide sound and adequate geotechnical evaluations and recommendations to support the design, construction, and proper execution of pipeline, pump station, and reservoir works within the project area.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Carrying out detailed geotechnical investigations including trial pits, soil borings, laboratory testing, and geophysical surveys.
• Logging and profiling of soil and rock conditions.
• Assessment of soil corrosivity and stray current potential.
• Compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Preparation of geotechnical data reports, evaluation, and recommendations.
• Monitoring during construction in Dolomitic conditions.
• Obtaining permits and wayleaves from relevant authorities.
• Coordination with other service providers and stakeholders.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Engagement of qualified Geotechnical Engineers or Geologists registered with ECSA or SACNASP.
• Execution of investigations in accordance with South African standards (e.g., BS 1377 series, BS 5930, ASTM D7012, ISO standards).
• Provision of detailed trial pits, soil borings, and geophysical surveys.
• Laboratory testing of soil samples for chemical, corrosivity, and strength parameters.
• Preparation of comprehensive geotechnical reports with factual data, interpretations, and recommendations.
• Adherence to environmental, health, and safety legislation during field activities.
• Provision of professional indemnity insurance of at least R1,000,000.
• Coordination with other contractors and obtaining necessary permits and wayleaves.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in geotechnical investigations, especially for pipeline projects and similar infrastructure works.
• Current registration and professional standing with ECSA or SACNASP.
• Ability to conduct and interpret geotechnical, geophysical, and corrosivity assessments.
• Experience in environmental, health, and safety compliance during field investigations.
• Capability to produce detailed, accurate, and reliable geotechnical reports and recommendations.
• Effective coordination and communication skills to liaise with stakeholders and authorities.
• Competence in project planning, scheduling, and resource management using approved software (e.g., MS Project).
