Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply high-quality glassware for inflight and lounge services of South African Airways. The glassware must meet specific design, material, and durability standards to ensure suitability for busy catering environments and compliance with safety and quality requirements.

Scope

This specification covers the material and design of glassware intended for use on South African Airways' domestic, regional, and international flights. The scope includes:

• Glassware for Business Class and Premium Class services
• Items such as flute glasses, goblets, wine glasses, liqueur glasses, and rummer glasses
• Design considerations to withstand at least 5000 dishwasher cycles
• Embossing of the SAA logo underneath the bottom of each glass

All materials used must be food-grade and suitable for industrial catering purposes. South African Airways will not supply materials; the bidder must provide all components.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the glassware include:

• Design: Durable, resistant to chipping, and capable of withstanding busy catering environments. The product must fit easily into dishwashers.
• Material Composition: The glass must be composed of the following oxide percentages:
• SiO₂ (Silica): 72.34% – for strength and transparency
• Na₂O (Sodium Oxide): 10.65% – facilitates melting and workability
• K₂O (Potassium Oxide): 4.82% – enhances durability
• CaO (Calcium Oxide): 6.28% – adds strength and reduces breakage
• BaO (Barium Oxide): 4.88% – improves clarity and brilliance
• Glass Rim: Must be extra tempered to prevent chipping.
• Embossing: The SAA logo must be embossed underneath the bottom of each glass.

Skills and Qualifications Requirements

Bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in manufacturing or supplying industrial-grade glassware suitable for catering and hospitality environments.
• Ability to produce glassware that meets the specified durability, design, and material standards.
• Compliance with food safety standards and suitability for high-temperature dishwasher cycles.
• Capability to produce multiple types of glassware with precise dimensions and volumes as specified:

• Premium Class Flute Glass: 170 ml volume, 162mm height, 47mm top diameter, 60mm bottom diameter
• Premium Class Goblet: 250 ml volume, 90mm height, 68mm top diameter, 50mm bottom diameter
• Premium Class Wine Glass: 200 ml volume, 137mm height, 59mm top diameter, 60mm bottom diameter
• Premium Class Liqueur Glass: 75 ml volume, 55mm height, 44mm top diameter, 54mm bottom diameter
• Business Class Wine Glass: 150 ml volume, 108mm height, 54mm top diameter, 56mm bottom diameter
• Business Class Rummer Glass: 190 ml volume, 108mm height, 58mm top diameter, 56mm bottom diameter
